MANGAN RESTAURANT

by 3:30:00 PM
“Mangan” is a Kapampangan word that means “Let’s eat!” From the name of Mangan Restaurant itself, the restaurant is inviting Filipinos to savor traditional and home cooked Kapampangan cuisine in the metro.

Mangan Restaurant has a contemporary interior design that adapts to the current mainstream. Mangan wants each of their guest to feel the elegance of present-day restaurants while dining traditional home cooked Filipinos comfort food.

Mangan serves a la carte, platter and set menu.

Guests can start their Mangan Restaurant banquet with Pancit Pusit.

Pansit Pusit is not the typical pansit that you grow up with. It is a squid ink pasta with chunks of squid and al dented noodles.

It is also a must that the banquet includes Kare-Kare, Pinakbet with Lechon Kawali and Sisig ni Mely or pork sisig.

Mangan’s Kare-Kare has fresh “pechay” or Chinese cabbage, sliced eggplant, green beans, “tuwalya ng baka” or tripe,  tender beef and rich peanut butter sauce.

Pinakbet with lechon kawali has sliced “ampalaya” or bitter melon, eggplant, green beans, okra and squash in shrimp paste sauce and topped with lechon kawali.

Sisig ni Mely or Pork Sisig, on the other hand, incorporate the rich kapampangan flavors of pork sisig.

Along with this dishes, Mangan also offers Crispy Pata in three ways- Crispy Pata, Patang Demonyo and Prichon Pata.

Mangan’s Crispy Pata is perfectly seasoned, with crispy skin and tender meat

For those who love spicy dishes, Patang Demonyo is perfect for you. It is perfectly seasoned, spicy and has crispy skin and tender meat.

Prichon Pata is served with  sliced Crispy Pata, sliced vegetables, pita bread and liver sauce. This dish is a new approach in savoring Crispy Pata and we can confidently say that this is a MUST TRY.

For desserts, Mangan serves “merienda” or light meal like Bibingka and Puto Bumbong.

Mangan's Bibingka is a rice cake topped with white cheese and slices of salted eggs. It is served with grated coconut  meat that can be eaten along with the rice cake. While the Puto Bumbong is served with butter, brown sugar and grated coconut meat. Unlike the usual Puto Bumbong that we grew up with, Mangan’s Puto Bumbong is chewy.

Eat and Love Thai Cuisine at SOI Restaurant

by 7:01:00 PM
Thai cuisine is the national dish of Thailand. These dishes are known for their strong aroma, a perfect mixture of five fundamental taste in a single dish, texture and spicy taste.  Thai cuisine is one of the most popular dishes in the world. Through the years, different restaurants that offer Thai dishes opened in the Philippines and one of them gave us the chance to savor an authentic Thai cuisine.

Last March, we were invited by Cabalen Group of Companies to try their Thai dishes at SOI. SOI is a casual full-service restaurant with over 70 varieties of authentic Thai cuisine. Ingredients of their dishes and Chef came all the way from Thailand to ensure that they provide Filipinos the real aroma, texture, and flavor of Thai dishes. "The aromatic essence. The exotic flavors and spices. The abundant texture," that is what SOI want each of their guest to smell, taste and feel whenever they dine in their restaurant. To date, SOI has six branches.

The first thing that we noticed when we entered SOI is the ambiance of the restaurant. The Thai chandeliers, Machuca tiles, wenge-finish furniture and wooden fan made us feel that we are dining in an elegant restaurant in Bangkok, Thailand.

We started our Thai banquet with their Fresh Spring Roll.

FRESH SPRING ROLL, PHP 168

What we love about SOI's Fresh Spring Roll are the al dente rice glass noodles crunchy and fresh carrots, cabbage, cilantro and bean sprout that perfectly blends with the peanut and hoisin sauce.

We were also able to drink one of the best Thai Iced Tea in Manila- SOI Thai Ice Tea.

THAI ICED TEA, PHP 85

This Iced Tea is always on our list whenever we go to SOI.

Another favorite of ours in SOI is their Crispy Catfish with Mango Salad.

CRISPY CATFISH, WITH MANGO SALAD, PHP 258

Crispy Catfish with Mango Salad has crispy catfish crumbs, shredded green mango and served with a sweet and sour sauce.

For the rice dishes, we kick off with Bagoong Rice.

BAGOONG RICE, PHP 198

Bagoong rice has sliced cucumbers, salted egg, shrimp paste, pork, string beans, dried shrimp, shredded green mango, chopped chili, fried rice and topped with a scrambled egg. We mixed everything together and got a perfect harmony of sweet, spicy and a bit salty dish.

We also dig into Fried Rice with Seafood and Basil Leaves.

FRIED RICE WITH SEAFOOD AND BASIL LEAVES, PHP 278

What we love about this rice dish is the oozing seafood flavor in every spoonful.

Dining in SOI is not complete without savoring their PAD THAI. This dish is neatly arranged and instagramable.

PAD THAI SHRIMP, PHP 298

SOI's PAD THAI has a perfect blend of sweet, salty and sour taste.

After enjoying SOI's Pad Thai, we started digging their Chicken Satay and Seafood in Yellow Curry.

CHICKEN SATAY, PHP 238/ 6 PCS

SOI's chicken satay has tender chicken that is oozing with smokey and distinct flavor.

SEAFOOD IN YELLOW CURRY

Seafood in yellow curry, on the other hand, has a distinct taste with the right blend of spice.

After enjoying the delectable dishes of SOI comes the dessert. We tried Thai's version of a halo-halo.

THAI HALO- HALO, PHP 138

Unlike the halo-halo that we grow up with, Thai's halo- halo version is DIY or do it yourself. It is served with its four major ingredients and shaved ice. The taste of your halo-halo will depend on the ingredients that you put. Ours is not that sweet but creamy and full of texture.

SOI gave us a total Thai experience. Their ambiance made us feel and imagine that we are dining in a cozy and elegant restaurant in Bangkok. Their dishes, on the other hand, has a distinct taste and right blend of flavors.

To savor SOI's dishes you may visit their branches at,

Eight Must Try Team Building Activities at Tree Top Adventure

by 10:46:00 PM
As you have noticed, Tree Top Adventure is one of our favorite adventure destination in Travel Eat Pinas. We featured Tree Top Adventure as a must visit destination in Subic, Zambales and we also gave you some tips about the must try zip line rides and activities in the park. What we didn't inform you are the team building facilities and activities of  Tree Top Adventure.

Last February, we were given a chance, along with our fellow Pinoy Bloggers, to experience a one of a kind Team Building Activity in Tree Top Adventure. Why do we say that it is one of a kind? It's because Tree Top Adventure has mechanical team building activities that will surely strengthen your team, barkada and even your family's relationship.

Tree Top Adventure have 12 team building activities in their branch at Subic and 8 in Baguio. They have two packages that you can choose from.  Package 1 includes 8 team building activities with a facilitator, team building kits that include name tag, arm bands, and all the necessities in the chosen activity, and company certificates of participation. Package 2, on the other hand, have 12  team building activities with a facilitator, team building kits, and certificate. Package 1 costs PHP 800 and Package 2 is PHP 1000 per person.

Among all the team building activities that we try, seven of them will surely help your team bond and strengthen your relationship.

TEAM LANYARD

Team Lanyard will test your patience, trust, balance and team's coordination. Each member of the group needs to hold each other to cross the ropes and reach the other side of the platform.

Cross the ropes while holding your teammate and balancing yourself.

We thought that this activity was easy, but it's NOT! We need to find the right sequence, rhythm, and balance in order to cross the ropes. The key to conquering this activity is the team's coordination and communication.

GEM DROP

Gem Drop will test the team's patience, coordination, focus, and strategies. Each member of the group needs to strategize and focus in order to match each gem using the pull and push strategy.

Match the partner of the gems with the push and pull strategy.

What we love about this activity is it enable us to strategize and listen to each other to finish the task.

DANCE REVO

Yes, you read it right! Tree Top Adventure has a dance challenge activity known as Dance Revo. Like the Dance Revo that we grow up with, each member of the group needs to step on the light in order to move to the next step.

Step on the lighted button to move to the next step.

This game reminds us of Dance Revo and most of all it enhanced our coordination since we cannot move to the next step if someone mistakenly step on the wrong button.

MULTI-LINE TRAVERSE

Each member of the group will cross a rope bridge by holding and passing on a hanging rope.

This is the hardest activity that we did as we need to balance and grab the hanging rope and pass it to our teammates who also struggle with balancing their body.

CENTIPEDE PEDAL

The team will walk like a centipede by stepping on a pair of wooden plank until they reach the end of the maze.

Step on a wooden plank and walk as one in Centipede Pedal.

The activity was hard at first since we need to strategize, do some trial and error and coordinate but as we move forward the task on hand became easy and we finished the activity ahead of time.

SPIKE VALLEY

Spike Valley is an activity that will test your team's strategy and collaboration. Each member of the team needs to cross the platform by using a metal rod at the shortest possible time.

Cross the platform using and passing a metal rod.

This activity consumed a lot of our time since we need to strategize. We need to find out who will move from one platform to another and who needs to pass the metal rod to the other in order to reach the finish line. This game surely made us think, listen to each other's idea and work as a team.

TEAM SEE SAW

Team See Saw will hone the team's communication and coordination as each member of the team need to work together in balancing a kamikaze-inspired see-saw.

The team needs to find the perfect mix and match in order to balance themselves in the see saw.

This activity is a bit tricky since we need to move and change places in order to get a perfect balance.

We finished our team building activity tired but fulfilled since we finish almost all the activities given to us. The activities that we had are one of a kind and most of them enhanced our team's collaboration and strategies. We also learned to listen, respect and acknowledge the ideas given by each of our team members. Most of all, the activities that we did strengthen our relationship.

FOOD PARK GUIDE: CARNIVAL FOOD PARK

by 4:39:00 AM
We love going to food parks. For us, food parks are the best source of new dishes and food ideas. A lot of food parks are sprouting in Metro Manila and due to increasing rate of food park establishments in the metro, each food park is providing different facilities and food stalls to get the attention of foodies in their area.

One Food Park that caught our attention because of its name and concept is the Carnival Food Park. Carnival Food Park opened December 2016 in  Marikina City and is the home of 26 food stalls that caters different dishes that is appealing to the taste buds of Filipinos.

The food park is located at 87 Mayor Gil Fernando Avenue, Marikina.

HOW TO GO TO CARNIVAL FOOD PARK

From Cubao, Quezon City

1. Ride a jeepney going to Taytay.
2. Alight in Marcos Hiway.
3. Ride another jeepney going to Marikina-SM Fairview.
4. Alight in front of Carnival Food Park.

A jeepney ride going to Marcos Highway costs PHP 9.50 while the jeepney from Marcos Highway going to the food park is PHP 8.00.

From Cainta, Rizal

1. Ride a jeepney going to  Marikina-SM Fairview
2. Alight in front of the park.

The fare costs PHP 8.00.

The food park has a car park for those who plan to bring their cars with them. The parking fee is PHP20.00.

Carnival Food Park’s bright lights and ornaments caught our attention and made us more curious about the park and the food stalls in it.

Inviting lights and decor of Carnival Food Park.

Upon entering the food park, different stalls welcomed us. The set up of the food park is the usual except for the location of their stage which is on top of the drinks and cocktails stall located near the center of the park. Food stalls are lined on the sides while the dining area is located in the center of the park.

Whenever we go to a food park we always encounter a usual question and that is Where to and What to eat? We easily get overwhelmed with different food stalls that have different specialties to offer. We checked all the food stalls in the park and came up with a great plan! We decided to create TREAPH Carnival Food Park Dinner Set.

Where to go now?

Our dinner set is composed of appetizer, pasta, seafood, main dish,  dessert, and pulutan. We checked all the food stalls in the area and the reviews online to create TREAPH Carnival Food Park Dinner Set that each member of your family and barkada can enjoy.

First up, APPETIZER.

SUSHIRRITO

To stimulate our appetite, we head straight to Sushirrito. From the name of the food stall itself, Sushirrito is serving burrito sized sushi. We tried their  California Maki and Chicken Karaage.

CALIFORNIA MAKI SUSHIRRITO, PHP 160.

CHICKEN KARAAGE SUSHIRRITO, PHP 170.

Sushirrito’s California Maki and Karaage has perfectly cooked Japanese rice and oozing with filling. The Maki has whole crab sticks, sweet mangoes, and coleslaw. It can be eaten with or without sauce. The Chicken Karaage is a bomb! We love how they incorporate the usual Karaage ate separately with rice, to burrito sized sushi. The Kaarage has crunchy breading with juicy chicken that has big cuts.

PASTA

We drop by BREWSKIE PASTA HUB and tried their Wen Manong and Kung Fu. Wen Manong from the name itself is Ilocos inspired dish. It is a carbonara that has bagnet and Ilocos longganisa for ingredients. Surprisingly, the creamy and cheesy carbonara blended perfectly with the garlicky longanisa and the juicy and crunchy bagnet. We love this pasta and we can confidently say that this is a MUST TRY.

WEN MANONG, PHP 188.

When Kung Fu was served to us, our initial reaction was “Charlie Chan”  Why? The dish looks like the former but upon tasting it our reaction was “Mas masarap!” Kung Fu has a sweet and spicy taste perfect for the Filipino taste buds. We also love its tender and juicy chicken that has crunchy breading.

KUNG FU, PHP 168.

SEAFOOD

When you say Seafood in Carnival Food Park, the first food stall in mind is HIP ON.

BAKED MUSSELS, PHP 180

We tried their Baked Mussels and Salted Eggztreme Seafood Platter. Unlike the ordinary Baked Mussels, HIP ON’s version is topped with bell pepper and drizzled with oil. The Salted Eggztreme, on the other hand, is so flavorful, “sauce pa lang, ulam na!” The shrimp, crabs, and mussels on the platter are fresh and seasoned well.

SALTED EGGZTREME PLATTER, PHP450.

MAIN COURSE

For the main course, we looked for a food stall that serves our comfort food- Tapa and Kare-Kare and we are so lucky that day because we found Kuxina. Kuxina serves  Filipino dishes with a twist. The two thing that we notice when they served the food are the generous servings and creative presentation of the dish.

Kuxina’s Kare-Kare is not your usual Kare-Kare, this one has coconut milk and yogurt making the sauce creamy but oozing with peanut butter flavor. The meat is also juicy and tender. What we love about Kuxina’s Kare-Kare is it can be eaten with or without bagoong.

CRISPY KARE-KARE, PHP 155.

For people who have sweet tooth and love breakfast meals, Kuxina’s  Tapaleng is perfect for you. It has juicy and tender beef sukiyaki with Korean bulgogi sauce, salted egg and sunny-side up eggs.

TAPALENG, PHP 135.

DESSERT

We love pastries and a dinner without those is not complete! While strolling in the food park we saw Havey Desserts. Havey serves cakes and pastries. We tried their Nutella La Cupcake, Red Velvet, KitKat Cake Slice,  Nutella Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookie Cup with Ice Cream and Brownies.

NUTELLA LA CUPCAKE, PHP 80.

The Nutella La Cupcake’s base is fluffy and moist. The frosting has the right sweetness and chocolate flavor. The cakes have moist bread. The KitKat Slice Cake is oozing with chocolate flavor but has the right sweetness. The Red Velvet is our favorite! The creaminess of the frosting is perfect and blends well with the bread.

KITKAT CAKE SLICE, PHP 120.

RED VELVET CAKE SLICE, PHP 120.

We also love the Nutella Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookie Cup. The Ice Cream blends with the cookie cup. Usually, desserts like this are sweet but Havey’s Chocolate Chip Cup has the right sweetness and chocolate flavor in it. Lastly, the brownies are moist and soft. The flavor is just right and not too sweet. The crust is perfectly suited for the brownie.

NUTELLA STUFFED CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE CUP WITH ICE CREAM, PHP 120.

A visit to a food park is not complete without having a bottle of below zero beer and PULUTAN.

For our pulutan, we ordered a sausage platter at PLANET SAUSAGE. The platter is composed of chips, crispy and one of a kind sisig sausage (yes you read it right, there is a sisig sausage!), chicken franks in caramelized sauce, hot and spicy schublig and sausage wrapped in a bacon. The sausages are juicy and oozing with flavors. Our favorite is the sweet chicken franks and hot and spicy schublig.

PUTO PLATTER, PHP 250.

Before heading home, we drop by Planet Sausage again. Why? We want to try their sandwiches as well. We tried their Black Hole or garlic sausage with chili con carne. We love how the garlic sausage compliment with the chili con carne. The chili con carne is oozing with flavors!

BLACK HOLE, PHP 130.

Here is the summary of TREAPH’s Carnival Food Park  Dinner Set which is good for 4-6 person.
