11:38:00 PM
A couple of months ago, me and my friends went to Baguio City to relax and unwind. On our second day, we hang out on one of the local bars in Baguio and find ourselves tipsy and more courageous that we decided to go to Diplomat Hotel.

Diplomat Hotel

Diplomat Hotel is an abandoned hotel on the top of Dominican Hill. In 1911, American and Spanish friars build the hotel as a vacation house for the nuns, priests and their  order in Baguio City. It was then turned into a school called Colegio del Santissimo Rosario in 1915 but they closed after two years due to the low rate of enrollment.  During World War II, Japanese forces find refuge in the vacation house and turned it into their Headquarters. Japanese killed, raped and perform barbaric acts in the said Headquarters. In 1945, American forces bombed the Japanese Headquarters and damaged the right wing of the building. Japanese on the other, hand killed themselves during the attack. In 1973, Diplomat Hotel Inc. acquired the building and turned it into a hotel. It was later on abandoned when the person who managed the building died.

According to locals, staff, and residents nearby, they  sometimes see  ghosts of beheaded friars and nuns and hear screaming, agony and banging of window and doors. To date, Diplomat Hotel is known as one of the most haunted abandoned hotels in the world.

It took us about 15 to 20 minutes to go to the abandoned hotel. We arrived around 3 in the morning which is the witching hour or as they say, the time when spirits and ghosts appear and are said to be powerful.

We were welcomed by the Hotel's huge gate. Fog is everywhere which makes the ambiance more eerie and creepy. We walk until we reached the building. I was so scared and every step I made the more goosebumps my skin made.

Creepy Gate at Diplomat Hotel

Upon reaching the lobby, my friends made their way in every corner of the Hotel hoping and wishing to satisfy their craving for fear and suspense. As for me, I stayed in the lobby where there is light, I can sometimes see ghosts or shadow people and elementals can easily pick on me. I usually get sick if I encounter the latter.

After a few minutes, my unsatisfied friends came back. They didn't saw any ghost, spirit, and elementals. The next day we checked the photos and videos we took and was surprised to capture some unexplained image.

I took a photo of my friends roaming around the hotel and when I checked  the photo I saw a lady wearing a white gown that seems to be watching them as well. I asked if someone in the group is wearing a white dress or gown and I find out that there is none. Now who is that woman wearing a white gown?

Photo of a woman wearing a white gown.

My friend took one of our group photos. When he checked the picture, he saw some images peeking on the window.

Aside from the photo, my friend also took a video during our tour and on the video we saw an orb following us and a white lady near the fountain.

Our Diplomat Hotel 3 A.M encounter is an experience that I don't want to do again. It is scary and at the same time, it is not right to go to a haunted house during wee hours and we should also respect the spirits living here by not dominating or playing on their house. I just hope and pray that this spirits may find the light and be at peace.

Gourmet Bar by Novotel Manila's Local and Foreign Dishes and Ice Cream Challenge!

9:04:00 PM
Last October 22, I was one of the lucky five bloggers who got invited by Jaey of HeyJaey and Novotel Hotel and Resorts Manila to try Gourmet Bar's ICE CREAM challenge.

I always pass by Novotel Manila at General Aguinaldo Avenue, Araneta Center, Cubao in Quezon City but I haven't got the chance to step inside the latter, that's why I am so excited that day. Upon entering the hotel, their friendly and accommodating staff welcomed me and lead me to the venue of the Ice Cream Challenge- Gourmet Bar by Novotel.

Gourmet Bar is one of Novotel's restaurants that offers a la carte menu with the mix of local and global flavors made by foreign chefs. It  has a calming ambiance with comfortable chairs and easy on the eyes color pattern and design that completes a totally relaxing environment.  Gourmet Bar can accommodate up to 80 people.

Gourmet Bar by Novotel Ambiance

Before we start the challenge, the Digital Marketing Manager of Novotel Manila, Miss Mariangela Silvestre and the team of Gourmet Bar gave us a welcome banquet. The banquet includes Foie Gras Praline, Black Linguini with Talangka Paste, 3  Beef Caldereta Sliders, Pizza Pampanga, Pizza Lungga Parma Ham Con Rucola E Grana, Non-Alcoholic Unleaded Cucumber and Pomelo and Ginger Cooler.

Foie Gras Praline is  pistachio crusted truffle with foie gras praline and apple bits that taste like apple pie filling and  crushed pistachio and strawberry.

After the banquet, the challenge started by presenting us Le Mont Gourmand. The ice cream challenge is simple, the five of us should work as a team to finish Le Mont Gourmand. Sound easy, right? but I am telling you it is challenging!

Le Mont Gourmand is composed of 15 big scoops of artisan ice cream and sherbets with banana, coffee, chocolate and raspberry flavors topped with macaroons, mixed berries coulis, and nuts, drizzled with chocolate syrup and garnished with whipped cream.

Le Mont Gourmand, PHP 999

We were told that other teams tried to finish the challenge but failed. So we strategies and finished the ice cream challenge in 11 minutes. So far, we are the fastest  among those who dared to try the challenge.

Gourmet Bar by Novotel did give me the warmest welcome during my first visit in Novotel Manila. My palate loved their delectable  Filipino and foreign mixed dishes and I adore their relaxing ambiance. I also enjoyed the challenge. Their artisan ice cream is not that sweet but full of flavors and is creamy. I would definitely go back and try a scoop or two of their ice cream soon.

Last October 15, I was invited by Pro-Friends, a property company, to tour Lancaster New City or LNC . It was my first time to visit Lancaster and I am curious about what it can provide to Filipinos.

During the tour, one of the Assistant Brand Manager gave me a brief background about Lancaster  New City. According to her LNC is a project of  Pro-Friends that aims to provide a family- friendly city where Filipino families can get affordable houses while providing them everything they need in a single roof. LNC is a 1,600 hectares community and covers three towns of Cavite- Imus, Kawit and General Trias.

Lancaster 1,600 hectares Master Plan

Pro-Friends believe that by providing the needs and wants of Filipinos in LNC, Filipinos can have time to do the things that they love or matter to them. That is why in developing LNC they focus on five things that they want Filipinos to have  while living in Lancaster New City-  LIVE, LEARN, WORK, PLAY, and PRAY.

LIVE- Lancaster provides affordable houses to Filipinos that suit and satisfies their needs while making sure that everyone in the community is secure and safe. LNC also provides residents commercial establishments like supermarket, restaurants, health clinic and drugstore, bayad center and salon and spa through Lancaster New City's The Square. Aside from the commercial establishments, the resident can also  go to LNC's Transport Hub where they can wait and ride buses and shuttle that will bring them to their desired destination.

LEARN- Lancaster New City has two private schools, St. Edwards Integrated School and St. Edward Faith Community School, that provides quality education and easy access to children at an affordable price. Facilities like Audio-Visual Room, Multipurpose Room, Computer Lab, Home Economics Lab, Science and Technology Laboratories, Speech Lab, Kindergarten Playroom, School Gymnasium and CCTV Camera are available to make sure that children can receive high standard education and safe environment.

WORK- LNC will open Suntech Park as a part of the 25-hectare commercial, lifestyle and business district that will provide residents of Lancaster job opportunities at the tip of their fingertips. Suntech Park would be the first IT Park in Cavite and the first IT Park approved by Philippine Economic Zone Authority or PEZA that will house several BPO Companies that will provide jobs and an opportunity to LNC residents.

PLAY- Lancaster New City provides leisure time to their residents by providing them swimming pools and basketball courts. Aside from this, LNC has Leighton Hall which is their first clubhouse. Residents can buy some snacks while relaxing or have their very own party, and wedding or baptismal reception at the Third Floor of the hall. Leighton Hall can house up to 400 guests.

LNC is planning to open more community centers to cater and satisfy their residents needs for leisure and fun.

PRAY- Aside from leisure, work and play LNC provides residents a place where they can worship and pray to God- The Church of the Holy Family. The church holds regular masses, Simbang Gabi and even weddings and baptism.

Authentic Japanese Dishes of Yabu: House of Katsu

9:37:00 PM
It's one of those days that I, my sister, and her friend is having a hard time choosing what to eat and where to dine. We've been roaming around the mall, trying to decide whether to eat at a certain restaurant or not, until we pass by Yabu: House of Katsu. Yabu: House of Katsu has been one of my favorite Japanese Restaurant since the first time I tasted their Gyudon set. I love Gyudon, I am picky and  particular with its savor and Yabu satisfied and delighted my palate while munching everything on their Gyudon set.

Yabu's interior is a typical restaurant with Japanese Comics wall decor and bottled  ingredients with labels written in the Japanese language.

Ambiance in Yabu: House of Katsu

Japanese ornaments in Yabu: House of Katsu

Upon settling down, the server handed us their menu. We ordered my favorite Gyudon Set, Furikake Fries, Menchi Katsu Set and Katsu Curry Set.

While waiting for our orders, the server reminded us of "The Yabu Ritual." The ritual is composed of four steps:

1. Grind the black and white sesame seeds until it turns into a powder and you can smell the aroma of the sesame seeds.

2. Pour the Katsu sauce two to three times on the powdered sesame seeds.

3. Mix it well.

4. Dip the katsu of your choice to the mixture.

Yabu special condiments

Aside from the ritual she also reminded us about Yabu's condiments. The set meals are composed of unlimited Miso Soup, Cabbage, Fruits, and your choice of Katsu or rice bowl dish or Donburi. To add up flavor to the cabbage she told us that we can use three condiments- Goma, Wasabi, and Shouyu.  For the  fruits,  we can sprinkle Himalayan Pink Salt and to spice up our meal we can add chili powder, chili oil, and Japanese pepper.

Furikake Fries arrived first. Furikake Fries are steak fries tossed in Furikake herbs. This fries is crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside with salty taste like seaweeds. The fries is served with a dip that is creamy and has a spicy and sour taste.

Furikake Fries PhP 210 or USD 4.35

After a few minutes, our set meal arrived.

Gyudon set is a rice bowl dish with miso soup, fruits, and cabbage. Gyudon has tender, grilled beef belly with sweet honey soy sauce topped with sauteed onion and a poached egg.

Gyudon Set PhP 495 or USD 10.25

Menchi Katsu  has crunchy on the outside with tender and juicy on the inside minced breaded beef. The minced beef is stuffed with cheese and mixed with Yabu's special spices.

Menchi Katsu PhP 385 or USD 7.98

Katsu Curry like Menchi Katsu has crunchy on the outside with tender and juicy on the inside minced breaded chicken. The chicken katsu is served with Yabu's signature curry that tastes authentic curry.

Katsu Curry  Chicken  PhP 375 or USD 7.77

Yabu: House of Katsu never fails to satisfy my palate with its tender Gyudon beef, and sweet sauce, and crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside minced breaded beef and chicken Katsu. The price is also reasonable considering the generous set meals with unlimited miso soup, cabbage and fruits, and the authentic taste of Japanese dishes. I will never get tired of going back to Yabu whenever I crave for Gyudon and Katsu. It will always be on top of my mind.
